Hopkins Developments Ltd
Proposals:
Residential Development of 55 dwellings, relocation of NHS
parking and public open space
Site:
Land adjacent to Wincanton Community Hospital
We are in the process of promoting a number of separate sites
in Wincanton and the surrounding areas, for residential and
commercial development via detailed and outline planning
applications.
One development with a long planning history included land to
the end of Dancing Lane, in Wincanton to the rear of Wincanton
Community Hospital.
There were two previous applications for outline planning
permission on the site, one which was subject to an appeal in
2012, and subsequently was dismissed. We then progressed to a
High Court challenge in which the judge quashed the appeal
decision. However, the Secretary of State appealed this to the
Court of Appeal, who reversed this decision back. In light of
this, the appellant withdrew its legal challenge to the August
2012 decision letter.
A secondary application which had yet to be determined by the
council was subsequently taken to appeal on behalf of HDL for
up to 55 dwellings, access works, relocation of NHS parking
and a large level of open space. Grass Roots Planning
successfully won this secondary appeal at Inquiry with the
Inspector determining that the previous reasons for refusal
had been addressed in relation to amenity, access for the NHS,
the continued safe operation of the hospital, sustainability,
and highways safety
