Mr & Mrs Zanetti
Old Sneed Park, Bristol
The site lies within the Sneyd Park Conservation Area and therefore the design had to seek to complement and respect the surrounding area. The existing dwelling on site was not considered to be particularly efficient in terms of layout, usage of space or thermal efficiency, and therefore it was decided that a replacement dwelling in this instance would be more suitable.
During the design process it was considered that the new dwelling should sit on the footprint of the old one, to maintain the integral building line which contributes to the character of the area. Furthermore, the roof design and span took its cue from many other dwellings found in the area, but instead utilised modern materials, as did the appearance of the building. This was designed to be unashamedly different to the more traditional character found in the local area and was approved by Bristol City Council in March 2014.
