Client:
Hopkins Developments Ltd
Proposal:
Residential site for up to 44 dwellings and public open space
Site:
Land at Bayford Hill, Wincanton
Located on the eastern edge of Wincanton, the site slopes
downwards from the main road at Bayford Hill which meant there
were panoramic views over towards the Blackmore Vale, a
distinctive landscape character area. Unfortunately although
significant work was undertaken by our landscape consultants
South Somerset District Council members overturned an officer
recommendation to permit and refused the application.
We were therefore instructed to undertake an appeal which
demonstrated that the site was highly sustainable and the
proposed illustrative layout demonstrated how the majority of
views from Bayford Hill road across the Blackmore Vale could
be retained after the development was implemented. The
Inspector agreed with our evidence that the site was highly
sustainable and that the key views could be retained in any
future design for a reserved matters application.
Subsequently, after an appeal hearing, the site was granted
permission in January 2015. Following the sale of the land to
a new applicant, we have now submitted the reserved matters
application on their behalf and a decision is anticipated
towards the end of 2017.
